The Tipton Chamber of Commerce held a brief meeting on Thursday, May 2, at Bandido’s Mexican Restaurant, with reports given on various activities.

In the absence of President Dayley Elliott the meeting was conducted by the vice president, Patrick Wood.

Calen Bestgen reported the scholarship committee will meet Friday to review applications for the chamber’s four $500 awards.

Movie in the Park night will be held Saturday, June 15. Wood said he has not delved into the options available for showing but would do that and make an announcement soon.

A date has not been set for the local competition in the MLB’s Pitch, Hit & Run contest.

Volunteers were asked to put out flags along Highway 50 for Memorial Day weekend, the 4th of July and Labor Day. Bestgen volunteered employees of The Tipton Latham Bank for the 4th of July flags, and said there is still $400 available in the account to purchase replacement flags. The money was donated by the Tipton Correctional Center Community Cares fund.

Wood asked if there are sponsors in the community for Boys State and Girls State. That will be explored with the possibility of a proposal for the chamber to become a sponsor next year.

Becky Holloway of The Tipton Times reported on the chamber’s new web presence on a tab of The Times’ page, tiptontimes.com. Members voted to trade out maintenance of the site for  chamber membership.

Solicitations for new chamber membership and renewal of dues was discussed.

The chamber’s next meeting will be held at noon on Thursday, June 13, at a location to be announced.
