Tipton R-VI voters on Tuesday, April 8, passed an increase in the operating levy to support teacher salaries, but said no to a measure that would not have resulted in their tax bill going up to build a new multipurpose building.

They also re-elected a director to the school board, and gave another of the four candidates running a nod to join the board.

The vote for the bond issue was just shy of the 57.14 needed to pass such a question with 56.80 voting yes on the question. The total in Moniteau, Morgan and Cooper counties was 380 yes to 289 no votes.

On the operating levy, the total was 475 yes to 217 no.

All results reported by the county clerks are unofficial until they have been certified.

Bo Helms was re-elected to the board with 367 votes, while Brant Uptergrove joins the board with 430 votes. Also running were Neal Allison who received 176 votes, and Britney Wilson who polled 267 votes.

A countywide issue received overwhelming approval from Moniteau County voters, 1,671 to 413, to authorize the county commission to freeze taxes on the residence only of senior citizens.

In the city of Tipton, all candidates for office are incumbents and all unopposed. Mark Hampton received 372 votes for mayor, Edward Wiecken 405 votes for city marshal, Chris Allee 228 votes for east ward alderman, and Bob Wolf 172 votes for west ward alderman.

Countywide, just over 22 percent of the 9,618 registered voters cast ballots on election day.
