For safety’s sake

Moniteau County Emergency Management secured a portable outdoor emergency warning siren for the Tipton community and placed it at the Tipton Firehouse on Thursday, Aug. 8. The siren will be used temporarily to warn residents of approaching severe weather as needed until the town’s existing siren can be repaired. It was discovered early last week that three of the siren’s four speakers were not working and causing it to sound when not activated. Delivery of the new speakers is expected in a few weeks so it can be repaired. Recognizing the danger to the community, Emergency Management Director Kevin Wieberg borrowed the temporary siren from Cole County Office of Emergency Management. It was purchased through Homeland Security funds for the Region F counties to utilize if needed. Wieberg said the tower is considered to be a regional asset and has been used mainly at special planned events that attract a large number of patrons over an extended period of time.
