New books at the library

The following books are now available at Price James Memorial Library.

New in cozy mystery:  “Beach Reads and Deadly Deeds” by Allison Brennan.  Mia Crawford is responsible to a fault. She has to be. Between her high-demand job and taking care of her grandmother and her cats, she has little time for anything else. What time she does have, she pours into reading. Mysteries, romances, thrillers,  books filled with women who are far more impulsive than she would ever dream of being. Forced into taking a long-overdue vacation, she finds herself on a luxurious private island where she just might have a chance to reinvent herself, for a little while, anyway. She can explore the island. Flirt shamelessly with a cute bartender. Have a vacation fling. Live like a heroine in one of her favorite novels. Or she can curl up with a good book on the beach. Turns out reinventing yourself is easier planned than done. But when gossipy notes written in the margins of an old book turn out to be clues to the disappearance of another guest, Mia finds herself diving headfirst into a dangerous adventure. With everyone at the resort hiding secrets of their own, she'll have to solve this real-life mystery before she becomes the next target.

New in mystery:  “The Unraveling of Julia” by Lisa Scottoline. Lately, Julia Pritzker is beginning to think she’s cursed. She’s lost her adoptive parents, then her husband is murdered. When she realizes that her horoscope essentially foretold his death, she begins to spiral. She fears her fate is written in the stars, not held in her own hands. Then a letter arrives out of the blue, informing her that she has inherited a Tuscan villa and vineyard, her benefactor a total stranger named Emilia Rossi. Julia has no information about her biological family, so she wonders if Rossi could be a blood relative. Bewildered, she heads to Tuscany for answers. There Julia is horrified to discover that Rossi was a paranoid recluse with delusions of grandeur, who believed herself to be a descendent of Duchess Caterina Sforza, a legendary Renaissance ruler. Julia is stunned by her uncanny resemblance to Rossi and even to Caterina, then she unearths eerie parallels between them, including an obsession with astrology. Before long, Julia suspects she’s being followed and strange things begin to happen. Not even a chance meeting with a handsome Florentine can ease her disturbed mind. When events turn deadly, she breaks with reality. Julia’s harrowing struggle becomes a search for her identity, a race to save her sanity and ultimately, a question of her very survival.

New in Westerns:  “Preacher’s Massacre” by William Johnstone.  Preacher is on the move, joining a trail drive led by freewheeling adventurer Wiley Courtland. Wiley has good horses to deliver to the American Fur Company at Fort Gifford. An Indian war party, led by the cunning and ruthless Red Knife, has other plans. Furiously fighting their way to safety, the horse traders make it to Fort Gifford, where the beautiful wife of the fort’s commander makes a raid of her own, with the help of Preacher’s newfound buddy Wiley. While jealousy erupts, Red Knife and his bloodthirsty legion of warriors come galloping over the horizon and lay siege to the fort. Before help can come, an act of treachery opens the gates to a massacre. Only one man survives the carnage. From the smoke and blood, he emerges, clinging to his life and loaded for bear. On his own, the way he likes it,  Preacher begins his war of revenge.

Another summer of story time has ended. It goes faster each year. We would like to thank our volunteers for all their hard work this summer.  “Creepy Crawlies” was a successful program. Thank you for bringing your children to our story time. We hope you enjoyed it.
